About

Connecting you with science-based, all-natural remedies for your animal’s health concerns

I am Sandi, and I founded Inspired Pet Wellness with the primary goal of providing educational guidance that promotes the safe use of cannabis for companion animals.

Although the scientific community is gaining traction on the benefits of cannabis (including CBD), many pet parents and veterinary professionals are unaware of the therapeutic properties cannabis holds.

It’s time to raise awareness of cannabis use in animals and its therapeutic potential.

My vision is for cannabinoid therapy to become an understood and widely-accepted option for pets.

Because our animals deserve to have access to natural, effective treatments that can drastically improve their quality of life.

This is what inspires me every day. It’s what drove me to become a certified Veterinary Cannabis Counselor — the first in Alberta, and one of the first in Canada.

It’s inherently an INSPIRED mission that I share my expertise with as many people as possible and advocate for the value of informed decision making.

My Story…Founded on Compassion

Inspired Pet Wellness - Founded on Compassion

Inspired Pet Wellness may be a new venture, but I have been advocating for the welfare of animals for as long as I can remember.

It’s what led me to pursue a career in the veterinary industry over 30 years ago. I have worked in private practice and as an educator, teaching for 10 years in the NAIT Animal Health Technology faculty and currently for the Olds College Veterinary Technology program.

I served as the executive director of the Animal Cancer Therapy Subsidization Society (ACTSS), a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide subsidization for oncology treatment for pets with cancer. I also support organizations whose missions are to help animals in marginalized areas find loving forever homes, such as the Puerto Vallarta SPCA, Sula Society, Compassion Without Borders, Soi Dog Foundation and the Voiceless Dogs of Nassau Bahamas.

In 2006, I became a certified Rehabilitation Therapist with the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. Like now, I chose this path because I saw a need that wasn’t being met at the time for pets in Canada. In particular, it enabled me to make a profound difference in the quality of life of geriatric animals, who hold a special place in my heart.

From tragedy to inspiration

Inspired Pet Wellness - From tragedy to inspiration

In 2019, my world changed in the blink of an eye. My family and I —including all our dogs — were involved in a high-speed collision. As a result of the accident, my dog Lani (16 years young) suffered from an illness that conventional medicine could not improve.

As I searched for ways to maintain her quality of life, cannabis therapy was recommended to me. Not only did it significantly improve her symptoms, it allowed our family to celebrate the gift of life and cherish each day we had with her.

This was the pivotal point in my journey, as my own injuries from the accident prevented me from returning to my rehabilitation career. At a time when I felt defeated, I chose a new perspective of inspiration. This started my path to becoming a certified Veterinary Cannabis Counselor.

From tragedy, I was given the gift of re-inventing my purpose.

A new chapter

From my own three rescue dogs (Bridget, Happy and Felice) and two inherited cats (Boots and Tiger), to the pets of everyone I have the privilege of working with, the bond I share with animals is the driving force in all that I do.

And now, it has brought me here. Inspired Pet Wellness has been my passion project from concept to reality.

If you’re ready to learn more about veterinary cannabis therapy and find out if it’s right for you, I am here to help.

Whether you’re a pet parent or a veterinary professional, I follow a collaborative approach that focuses on the well-being of each animal as an individual.  One of the greatest privileges in my career is not only helping pets, but working with amazing owners and practitioners who are dedicated to best practices for their companion animals.

Consultations are offered virtually through Zoom. No matter where you’re located, I am happy to connect and start working together to understand your pet’s health concerns and taking steps to enhance their well-being.

If you are like me, your pet means the world to you.

Ana and I were supposed to be enjoying retirement life after having worked as a Search and Rescue (SAR) team for over 6 years. I started to notice that Ana was showing increased signs of discomfort and decreased mobility, she was not able to do things that she enjoyed like jumping up into bed with me, running after the cats, playing tug, etc. Ana’s history of having had back surgery and our SAR work was catching up with her and it broke my heart. Ana’s rehabilitation regime was intensified and her pain meds were increased with adequate results but I was not able to get her back to her baseline.

In stepped Sandi…her knowledge and experience along with her genuine compassion made it possible for Ana get to a place to live a better quality of life and do those things that make her happy again!

Since Sandy has been working with my Ana I have seen a renewed puppy like energy in her day-to-day activities. Her energy levels speak for themselves, indicating that Ana is not experiencing the pain in her spine as she has had in the past. Sandi will treat your pet as if they were her own. The time and care she will invest in your animal is second to none.
